The story

Brief. An outdoor pool that was usable for three months a year. The family wanted a building that let them swim in January and still felt like being in the garden.

Design. A long, low frame with fully glazed sides that slide away in summer. The roof is pitched just enough to catch the low winter sun and keep out the high summer glare.

Craft. Pool air is hard on timber, so every joint was detailed to drain and breathe. The oak is left unfinished to silver slowly, as it would on any garden building.

“We swim most mornings now, whatever the weather. That was the whole point.”
