Studio
A small team of carpenters and designers,
working in oak since 1994.

1994. Sulis Oak began in a borrowed cowshed outside Bath, when two young carpenters — trained on the restoration of medieval barns — decided the oldest way of building was still the best. The first frame was a porch for a neighbour. It is still standing, and still loved.
Today. Fourteen carpenters, three designers and an in-house engineer, working between a small studio on Walcot Street and our workshop in an old sawmill at Box.
What we believe
Three things we never compromise on.
01
Made by hand. Every joint is marked and cut by a carpenter, not a machine. It is slower, and it is why our frames look the way they do.
02
Built to outlast us. A green oak frame will stand for three hundred years or more. We design every building to be loved, repaired and handed on.
03
Close to home. We only build within about sixty miles of Bath, so we can know every site, every client and every planning officer by name.
