The story

Brief. Anna had been drawing at the kitchen table for eleven years. She wanted a room of her own, far enough from the house to feel like going to work.

Design. A single bay with a big north-facing window over the desk and a low window to the south for watching the orchard. The roof is shingled in cedar, which will silver to match the oak.

Craft. Small as it is, the joinery is the same as on our largest houses. The frame was cut in four days and raised in an afternoon, between the apple trees.
